Tubal Reversal – The Day of Your Tubal Surgery

Tubal surgery at a tubal reversal center can be less stressful than what you will encounter having it done at a hospital.  For some women, that alone can make it worth going to such a center.  You will be treated as a person instead of one more piece of broken machinery.  Of course part of that is due to the much lower numbers of patients on any one day.   However, to give you a feel of what it is like, we will take you quickly through what you might experience at one tubal reversal center, the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center (CHTRC).

After you arrive for your tubal surgery, in the pre-op area, you will remove your street clothes and change over to a surgical gown, booties and cover for your hair.  This particular center suggest you wear good socks to keep your feet warm.  You will be given the proper medicines.  An IV will be started.  The anesthesiologist will come by to talk to you and check out your heart and lungs again before going to the operating room.

At this tubal reversal center, you walk to the operating room yourself.  You can have a quick look around and ask any more questions that come to mind.  They really go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and have all questions answered as best as possible.  You will get up on the table and a strap will be put across you to help keep you on the table.  They even give you a pillow to put under your knees to help keep you from straining your body.  Then you get your last chance for questions as monitors are put in place before you are put under for the tubal surgery.

You will awaken in the recovery room with an oxygen mask on and the monitors still in place.  The Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center staff will assess your pain level and help you if you are nauseous or uncomfortable.  The staff will watch over you for one to two hours checking your condition in this quiet room.  

After this point, you will get dressed and move to a recliner.  You will drink clear fluids as you must urinate before release.  While waiting, the surgeon will come by with a report on your surgery providing you with information such as your tubal lengths.  Once you are able to go to the bathroom, you can go home or back to your hotel room.  Many patients to CHTRC are from out of town and stay at the hotel before and after their surgery.  Someone will check on you and your incision the next morning after which you should be cleared to return home.  Some women choose to remain one more night but most do go home the next day following tubal surgery.

This environment is quiet and comforting and a much less stressful way to have your tubal surgery. 30 Minute Workout : Fast and Effective!

Today I?d like to talk to you about a 30 minute workout. I just recently posted an article for a 10 minute workout and discussed whether there?s value in that. After all, we are all super-busy, as well as ready, willing, and able to come up with excuses why we cannot exercise. So it?s a valid topic. But, can you guess what is 3X better than a 10 minute workout? Yep, you got it?a 30 minute workout. If you are from the old school of thought that you need an entire hour to get in a good workout, let me tell you a little secret: NONE of the successful, in-shape trainers I know EVER do a full hour workout anymore. OK, well, that may be slightly exaggerated, but mostly true. Successful people are the ones that find the most efficient way to accomplish the goal and do it, right?

That last bit there was a big clue, in case you missed it. DO IT! Whether it is ten minutes or 30 minutes, just do it, something, anything. But let me explain for you an easy way to get a great 30 minute workout without knowing a bunch of different exercises that are efficient and excellent. I shared something similar with you in my free workout plan. It?s interval style and that just means you can take a couple of powerful exercises and then do several rounds of them in quick succession so that you are getting your heart rate up and working your muscles at the same time. It?s killer stuff and I love it! Simple, fast, effective.

So here?s a good example:

Five minutes Jump rope: Now if you can?t do five minutes, just do what you can, but push it.

Pushups: How many can you do? I?m good at 12, but I must remind you that these are FULL pushups in good form, not what I see people doing, these little barely-bending, butt-hoisted-up, bad-form things sadly claiming to be pushups. Now, if you can?t do a full one, that?s fine, don?t pretend you can, because it?s causing more harm than good. Do a modified version with the knees down, and keep everything straight from knees to top of head. Then really try to bend down with the arms (NOT your neck).

Squats: In the free workout plan article I explained to you exactly how to do these correctly, so I won?t go into it again here. I can bang out 25 or 30 of these. How ?bout you?

Plank pose with a twist: If you don?t know about plank pose, I found a great in-depth explanation here.  You can do plank pose by itself as well.  It is great and you can just hold it for an extended length of time, so long as you don?t let your belly slouch down, that means your abs have given in and you are putting strain on your lower back. So if you want, you don?t even need the twist. It just depends how strong you are. If you are ready for the challenge, add the twist, which entails spacing your feet far enough apart to drop them down sideways while lifting one arm up off the floor, reaching toward the ceiling. The hand that?s on the floor should be positioned under your shoulder and you want to go slowly alternating sides to respect the proper positioning, as this is working, in part, the wrist, which is very weak for most people.

A small side note: Working the wrist is something many people shy away from. My personal experience is that I had wrist troubles for years as a waitress carrying extremely heavy trays (my wrists are ridiculously tiny) and when I started working toward my yoga certification, they gave me a lot of trouble for a time. Working past this, they then grew strong and I have had nearly zero issues with them ever since. Moral of the story: Take care, but don?t shy away from strengthening the wrists.

Well, I got so pumped up talking about this 30 minute workout routine that I decided to leave off the article writing and go do it. Of course, I had numerous interruptions from the children so I didn?t get the full 30 minute workout in, but I did get a little sweaty, and I do feel much more energized. So it?s all good. One final note: I suck at jumping rope!! LOL!

The Breast Defense Against Violence: Ban the Bra!

As the world recognizes the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, one form of violence has been overlooked that happens everyday, all over the world, and causes pain, suffering, disfigurement, and even death to thousands of women annually. And women actually do it to themselves. It is something they do out of fear of rejection and ridicule. It is the ultimate form of psychological violence, a form of self abuse to conform to the demands of men.

I am referring to breast disease and cancer, and how it is caused by the wearing of tight bras.

Most women agree that their bras are uncomfortable. However, the demand for acceptance trumps all reason, as women eagerly spend billions of dollars annually to display their cleavage to the pleasure of men.

Creating cleavage and a perky, youthful bustline, however, has a price. To get the “right” look, the bra must be tight, as it compresses the soft breast tissue. This causes pain, cysts, and can lead to cancer, something that was rare prior to the advent of the bra.

It is nothing new for women to abuse themselves for fashion. For example, not long ago, Chinese women bound their feet to please their men. Foot binding was disabling, causing completely distorted feet and toes. Some toes would actually rot off. Men would find erotic pleasure unwrapping, cleaning, and re-wrapping their women’s feet. And this went on for centuries!

Another senseless fashion, the wearing of corsets, also tortured women for centuries. The tight lacing impaired breathing, digestion, kidney function, and blood and lymphatic circulation, and caused pelvic disease and permanent skeletal deformation. But men loved the hourglass look, so women put up with the abuse.

Fashions can be sick. And this also applies to the wearing of bras.

Bras are constrictive by design. Their purpose is to alter breast shape, and this requires constant pressure applied to the soft breast tissue. Pressure, however, impairs the circulation of blood and lymph within the breast tissue. Most effected are the tiny, easily compressed lymphatic vessels, which drain the tissue of lymph fluid and is the circulatory pathway of the immune system.

Lymph fluid bathes the cells and needs to be regularly cleansed, taking with it toxins, waste products, viruses, cancer cells, bacteria, and cell debris. This lymph fluid is brought via lymphatic vessels to lymph nodes, which filter the fluid and mount an immune response, if needed. Eventually, the fluid re-enters the bloodstream. However, if the breast is constricted by a tight bra, the lymphatic vessels can be compressed, causing the fluid to accumulate in the tissue, along with the toxins it was trying to eliminate, some of which are carcinogenic. The result is pain, cyst formation, fibrocystic breast disease, toxification of the breast tissue, and, ultimately, cancer. Red marks and indentations in the skin left by the bra are telltale signs of constriction.

But will women eliminate their bras? Some women do once they hear about the bra/cancer link. However, for many, the fear of cancer and the pain of constriction are not as compelling as the fear and pain of rejection. To feel accepted, some women accept the self abuse of bra wearing. Some even pay a surgeon to cut their breasts, enlarging or reducing their size, subjecting themselves to the risks of surgery, anesthesia, and potential complications, all to look acceptable to others.

This is violence against women masquerading as fashion. That women do this violence to themselves makes it more disturbing. If a man were to punch a women in the breast, it would be obvious violence. When a woman binds her breasts to the point of pain, cysts, and cancer, it is still violence, even if the bra is lacy, sexy, and fashionable.

How to Look After Your Feet in Pregnancy – Essential Advice and Tips

Pregnancy as well as being a very special time is also a time when your body undergoes many changes. One of these changes is in relation to feet. It is useful to know what changes in your feet to expect during pregnancy and how best to manage these for a happier healthier pregnancy.

It is often overlooked that women’s feet increase in size by approximately one or two sizes during pregnancy. The reason for this increase is hormones that are released within the body with the aim of enabling the ligaments in the birth canal to relax. Also, ligaments in the feet relax which in turn causes the feet to lengthen and widen. As a result of increased weight gain during pregnancy many women suffer with foot problems – the most common of these being Over -Pronation and Edema. These can lead to pain being experienced at the following area – heel, arch and ball of the foot.

Over-Pronation is often referred to as ‘flat feet’. It occurs when the arch of the foot flattens for example when being forced to endure extra weight. The result of this can be that walking is experienced as extremely painful. It can also increase strain on the feet, calves and back.

Edema which is also known as swelling in the feet, can also pose a problem in the later months of pregnancy. The main reason for feet becoming swollen is displacement of water fluid within the body.

So what can be done to alleviate suffering from these conditions and to assist in having a more enjoyable pregnancy.

· Have a rest – put your feet up

Take every opportunity to rest and elevate your feet. If in a position where you have to sit for extended periods of time then rest your feet on a stool to provide elevation.

· Encourage your feet to breathe.

Healthy feet need a breather – avoid footwear or socks that constrict your feet.

· Keep active

Taking regular exercise will both improve your overall physical health and aid circulation? If you find you have to sit for long periods of time build in occasional `walk abouts` so as to aid circulation.

· Regularly check your foot wear throughout your pregnancy.

Your feet will change and grow, so have them measured regularly throughout your pregnancy.

· Watch your diet

Try to avoid foods that are high in salt as these will result in water retention. A healthy well balanced diet can result in a much happier pregnancy with healthier supportive feet.
