When posing the question as to how to conceive a baby in the best possible circumstances it is important to consider what you eat. It has become a well accepted and documented fact that it is important to eat well while you are pregnant. I do not think anyone would argue with this comment! The benefit it provides to you and your baby is essential.

However, you should also know how important it is to eat well even before you get pregnant?
If you are actively trying to get pregnant you have to ensure your body is prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. In the first instance you should consider discussing your decision to conceive a baby with your Doctor. Your Doctor will be able to give you a quick health check. You will be able to discuss with your Doctor any issues relating to you specifically, such as if you may need to lose a few pounds before getting pregnant or alternatively your Doctor may recommend you need to gain a few pounds. Whatever the advice it is important to fully take it on board.Your Doctor may recommend that you change your eating habits and perhaps start some light exercising.

As soon as you decide you want to conceive a baby, you should begin to get in the habit of eating healthier anyway. You do not need a doctor to tell you this! Slowly begin to cut out stimulants such as caffeine. If you smoke, it is essential you quit right now. I cannot emphasise this strongly enough. It is not good enough to wait until you have that positive pregnancy test. Current medical evidence supports the claims that smoking can decrease your fertility and increase your risk of a miscarriage if you are still smoking when you are pregnant.

You can also start taking vitamin supplements that include iron, folic acid, and calcium along with the vitamins C, D, B and vitamins B6 and B12 . It is also worth you adding foods into your diet that
are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber such as spinach and other green vegetables, peanuts, and orange juice. Avoid foods which contain fat and excess sugar. You want to eat foods that have a high nutrient value. Eat at least five portions a day of fresh fruits and vegetables along with protein and iron rich foods like dried fruit, and green vegetables. This is sensible eating advice for anyone, but it is especially relevant for any woman wanting to get pregnant. Do not eat raw fish like sushi. Keep clear of undercooked shellfish and meat especially pork and chicken. You also want to try to avoid fish that has high mercury content like swordfish, shark, or mackerel. Cut out any food that has unpasteurized milk in it including some cheeses such as brie and camembert. Also cut out foods that have raw eggs in it. I know all of this may seem harsh but it is for the long term good for you and your baby.Ensure you increase your water intake to at least eight glasses a day. Water should always be your first beverage choice before, during and indeed after your pregnancy. Water helps to flush any toxins from your system. You can drink fruit and vegetable juices but do not give up on the eight glasses of water.

Perhaps the most important thing you can do before you get pregnant is to cut out all alcohol.
There is enough medical evidence to support the theory that women who drink alcohol might
have a harder time getting pregnant than women who do not drink alcohol. Another good reason to
give up alcohol before you get pregnant is that researchers have found that some birth defects are
caused by alcohol exposure in the first few weeks of pregnancy.

It is indeed a wise move to get your body prepared for pregnancy and it will be one of the best decisions you could make. In considering how to conceive a baby in the best circumstances possible you must prepare your body for the challenges of growing that baby of yours!
